Spinner Adil Rashid made history on Saturday by becoming the first spinner from England to take 200 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Rashid achieved this milestone during the second ODI against Australia in Leeds.
Adil Rashid created history in the match against Australia on Saturday. He became the first spinner and the second English bowler to take 200 wickets in ODIs for England. Adil is England’s best spinner in ODIs. Apart from him, Moeen Ali has taken 111 wickets, and Graeme Swann has taken 104 wickets. Only three spinners have taken 100 or more ODI wickets for England. Adil reached this milestone by dismissing Glenn Maxwell during the match at Headingley.
Debuting in 2009, Adil Rashid has taken 201 wickets in 137 ODI matches for England. He has two five-wicket hauls in his ODI career and eight four-wicket hauls. Rashid is the third-highest wicket-taker for England in ODIs. Fast bowlers James Anderson (269 wickets in 194 matches) and Darren Gough (234 wickets in 158 matches) are the top two wicket-takers.
As for the match, Alex Carey played an aggressive knock of 74 runs off 67 balls, helping Australia set a challenging target of 270 runs against England in the second ODI. Australia is looking for their 14th consecutive ODI win, but their start wasn’t good after being invited to bat first, and at one point, they struggled to reach even 200 runs. Captain Mitchell Marsh (60 runs from 59 balls) was the only top-order batter to score a half-century.
In the first ODI, Travis Head had played an unbeaten 154-run innings, leading Australia to a seven-wicket victory. However, he could only score 29 runs in this match before becoming Brydon Carse’s (3-75) first victim. The other opener, Matthew Short, also contributed 29 runs. Among the other batters, Steve Smith was dismissed for 4, Marnus Labuschagne for 19, and Glenn Maxwell for 7 runs. However, Carey didn’t let Australia’s fans down, hitting eight boundaries and three sixes in his innings. However, Australia was bowled out for 270 runs in 44.4 overs.
