Team India will be on their Australia tour during this time, and the auction will happen just before the Christmas holidays. The BCCI has already started preparing for the auction, and the event is expected to be held in Bengaluru or Mumbai, as both cities offer winter-friendly weather.
- Player Retention Policy Announcement Coming Soon
One of the key highlights of the IPL auction is the Player Retention Policy. The rules regarding how many players each team can retain and the buy-back options through the Right to Match (RTM) card are expected to be announced by the end of September 2024. BCCI’s AGM is scheduled for September 29, 2024, when important decisions regarding the auction will be finalized. The team purse for the IPL 2024 auction is expected to increase. Reports suggest that the minimum purse could be ₹120 crores, possibly going up to ₹125 crores or even more. Teams have consistently requested a higher purse, and BCCI will likely agree. Another important update is that the salary cap on retained players will be removed. Teams will now have complete control over the salary they offer to their retained players.
