Parthiv Patel has previously worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians, five-time IPL champions.
Gujarat Titans (GT) plan to increase the number of Indians in their coaching staff by hiring former India wicket-keeper hitter Parthiv Patel as their batting coach for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). According to a Times of India story, Parthiv will take up that position from South Africa’s Gary Kirsten, who was appointed head coach of Pakistan. Parthiv was born in Gujarat and has played domestic cricket for the state for more than 15 years, so he will feel at home at GT.
Before this, Parthiv Patel had been a talent scout for five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI). After his retirement in 2020, he continued in this role alongside duties as a cricket commentator and pundit.
Parthiv will join Ashish Nehra on the Gujarat Titans’ coaching staff. As head coach of the franchise, Nehra led GT to two IPL finals in its first two seasons and won the title in its first season in 2022. The report added that former English cricketer Vikram Solanki will continue to be the Director of Cricket for Gujarat Titans.
Parthiv Patel has played nearly 3,000 IPL runs over 139 games for several franchises. He is also a three-time IPL winner as a player, having won the title as part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2010 and as part of MI in 2015 and 2017. He has also played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Parthiv represented India in 25 Test matches and 38 ODIs during his career.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 major auction, the Gujarat Titans are anticipated to keep Shubman Gill as captain. Mohit Sharma, B Sai Sudharshan, Mohammed Shami, and Rashid Khan are also mentioned as possible fellow retainers.
