Polly Inglis Earns Maiden Call-Up for New Zealand’s ODI Series Against India
Polly Inglis, an uncapped batsman and wicketkeeper, has been called up for the first time to the New Zealand team for the three-match ODI series against India. Sophie Devine, who recently won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, will captain the 15-member squad.
ODI squad: Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, Eden Carson, Lauren Down, Izzy Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Polly Inglis, Fran Jonas, Jess Kerr, Melanie Kerr, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, and Lea Tahuhu.
“We’re excited to introduce Polly for her first tour,” head coach Ben Sawyer said. “She put her hand up in last season’s Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and throughout the New Zealand A series against England, so it’s a great next step for her.”
Pacer Rosemary Mair, part of the World Cup squad in the UAE, has been rested. “Mair’s bowling loads were managed through the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and it has been determined that further management is needed before she returns to 50-over cricket,” the board said in a media release. The move was made as part of her long-term rehabilitation following a back injury earlier this year.
Off-spinner Leigh Kasperek is the other T20 World Cup-winning squad member who won’t be traveling to India from the UAE.
“Touring India is one of the great experiences in world cricket,” Sawyer said. “It’s such a special place to come, and I know everyone is looking forward to the challenge ahead. Alongside trying to win the series, the tour will serve as important preparation for next year’s ODI World Cup in India.”
The first of the three ODIs will be played on Thursday (October 24) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
